The Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters throughout the country care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year, of which approximately 3-4 million are euthanized. Ending the euthanasia of homeless animals is a goal that all animal welfare organizations share, but the reality is that shelters, with their limited space and finite resources, cannot achieve this goal without high levels of community support.
In Montgomery County, VA, there is HOPE.
The mission of Animal HOPE Alliance is to provide humane, responsible, and
loving care for lost, abandoned, unwanted, neglected, ill, injured, or
abused companion animals. We spayed/neutered 515 animals in 2008 and hope to
surpass that number in 2009. We have found homes for more than 100 pets.
Through our efforts and with the help of the community, we will continue to
rescue animals, promote spaying and neutering, and place animals in loving
and appropriate "forever" homes.
H is for Help:
Our programs and services include rescue, foster care, lost and found assistance, and placement of animals, as set forth in our mission.
O is for Opportunity:
We offer companion animal visits with hospitalized children and the elderly in long-term care facilities and give information and assistance to people in the community who are experiencing problems related to companion animals.
P is for Protection:
We provide a spay-neuter assistance program for our community. Through our caretaking efforts, we also spay/neuter and inoculate temporarily homeless animals and supply them with food, shelter, and affirmative medical attention.
E is for Education:
We offer “humane” education to individuals, schools, and community groups.
The Animal HOPE Alliance is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes as specified in Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, including for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
